Boong wines BAFTA awards - Farhan Akhtar 's film sparks global Buzz

It is a Proud moment for every Indian that The Manipuri -Language Film Boong won the Best children's and Family Film awards at the BAFTA 2026 ceremony.

About The Movie :

• Boong is Directorial debute of Lakshmipriya Devi .she previously worked as an Assistant director on films like lakhya and PK.

• Boong is Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhvani under 'the Exel Entertainment Banner ' along with Chalkboard Entertainment and suitable Pictures.

• Boong stars Child Actor Gugun Kipgen in the Main Role , supporting cast features Bala Hijam Ningthoujam as his mother and Angom Sanamatun as his Best Friend.

• According to Hollywood Reports India the movie was shot in 2023 .the production finished just week before major ethnic violence erupted in Manipur.

About The Story:

• Boong is story of a young boy named boong whose father was missing and he wants to reunite his father with his mother so she can be happy again.

• In his mission his Best Friend Raju  joined him .

• In the serch of his missing father Boong and Raju travels to the border town of Moreh and even crosses in to Myanmar.

• After doing so much efforts for  bring his father back and to see a happy family of him and his perents the harsh reality hits Boong .

• Boong had to accept the Heartbreaking reality of his Father's Refusal to return .

• The story focused on love,abandonment and the strength of a mother -son duo .

• Rather then forcing or cry over his father's Refusal to come back Boong accept the reality of his family situation and ultimately accepts love of his mother alone .

• Boong was also screened at the International Film Festival of India ,the MAMI Mumbai Films Festivals and The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

• Boong also won Excellence in Features Film Making at the International South Indian Film Festival in Canada.

• Boong won the Best young Film at the 17th Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia .

• Director Lakshmipriya Devi accepted the Award on behalf of their team , in her speech she gave a tribute to her homestaye Manipur .
• Lakhmipriya Devi added that the movie BOONG is inspired by her Grandmother's folk stories and her own childhood memories of Manipur.
• Producer Farhan Akhtar said ,"Lakhmipriya Devi and I known eachother for about 20 years ,this film set in a region of India from which we rarely get to watch films. It was a nice to support that as well, and it's a very Heartwarming story , so it just felt right ."
